In a press release to the media, the Mogalakwena Municipality has announced water restrictions for Mokopane and Mahwelereng. The new restrictions, which will reportedly start with immediate effect, will mean that the water supply will be closed daily from 04:00-12:00 and 16:00-22:00.
Insufficient rainfall and fast declining dam level have led to the implementation of water restrictions by the municipality, says communications head Malesela Selokela.
"Water restrictions will allow the municipality to pump more water to the reservoirs and ensure that the dam levels pick up to the required level and ensure that greater community receives water at all times."
The restrictions shall be implemented while the municipality is engaging other stakeholders for more water supply. The municipality is constantly in talks with Lepelle Northern Water, Department of Water and Sanitation and Lonmin to address this issue.
He added that the low water supply was due to license restrictions and less water in aquifers.
The press release stated that the restrictions would remain in place until the municipality could source more water.
